Default Swapping out OEM grille questions

Looking to upgrade to a 09-11 Tahoe.. After having my 02 Z71, I think I will be happy with a LT but would really like to change out the grille to the chrome Z71 one... So what am I looking at time wise and $ if anyone happens to know.
Thanks in advance

I follow several forums and can only remember one guy that tried it. IIRC, he learned several new swear words and looked like he'd wrestled a bobcat when he was finished.

Here are directions from another thread on a different forum.
Well.... today the weather was decent and I was able to install my factory chrome mesh grille on my '07 LTZ. It was pretty straightforward and I didn't have to remove the bumper cover. Installation is as follows:

1. Remove the top six screws that hold on the upper grill.

2. remove the two side clips that hold the upper grille to the bumper cover (these were a bitch)

3. Remove the two speed nuts on the back of the Chevy bowtie badge.

4. unsnap all of the tabs on the bottom of the upper grille. Remove

5. unsnap all of the black tabs on the lower grill all the way around. Remove

6. install lower grill by snapping it in place (make sure all of the tabs are seated)

7. install upper grille and seat all of the bottom tabs

8. install speed nuts

9. install side clips

10. install all six upper screws.

11. enjoy a cold beer.

Notes:

The bottom tabs on the bottom grille were kind of a pain to get unsnapped. Keep trying, you will get it!

Good luck!!
This thread can be found HERE.

I have not personally done this myself, but I know this project is definitely no walk in the park. However, with patience, and a little luck you should be able to get it done. Maybe, if you have the time, you could make up a little write up with pictures to make it easier for people who are looking to install one in the future. Good Luck!!

Thanks! Kinda what I thought, under $300 and an afternoon... A set of nicer OEM wheels when I need new tires and I think I'll be happy with an LT.

I hear ya! Who needs an LTZ?

I was searching all of the forums I am a member of and came across another thread that offers a little more information. You might also want to give this thread HERE a read.

I too like the HID idea mentioned in that thread. Thanks for the link!
I am looking for a black one and plan on making it my own version of a Harley edition so it needs to have just a little tasteful bling here and there, very subtle stuff is my style (22" chrome wheels are hideous IMHO). It'll get just the tiniest dash of color and pinstriping too..

It's not an OEM Z71 or LTZ grill but my Billit(sp?) looks like it was just installed over top of the OEM grill. Might reduce the install complexity if you just go with an aftermarket.

It was on it when I got it so I can't tell you how hard the install is.

I had an overlay billet grill on my 2007 and it took about ten minutes to install. It's the one in the avatar.
