Tahoe 07 - remove Bose, keep Head Unit - help!
Tahoe 07, Z71 w/ stock GM Nav/DVD and factory bose.
I want to keep the stock HU (Nav-radio-DVD) and remove the bose-amp and bose speakers.
Also, I have found out that the HU does not need any equalization or correction, it is a perfect 20-20k flat signal
Planned project:
(remove bose amp, bose 6" sub in console, all bose speakers)
Speakers- New
- Front door - Infinity 6.1 Kappa Perfect
- Rear door - Infinity 6.5 Kappa component
- D' pillar - Infintiy 4" dual (this was fun)
- Kicker 6.5" shallow (built custom box for front console)
- Kicker 10" shallow, in back
Amps- New
- Alpine PDX4-150 - for all 4 doors
- Sony 4xm - d' pillar and 6.5 sub-center console (what to install where bose amp is, a perfect fit!)
- Sony 1xm - 10" sub in back
From the head unit I will be using the pac-oem 1416 to drive the new amps.
Here is the big problem, I am told that if the bose amp is removed that I will lose On-Star, Nav and chimes as these are not sent from HU to amp as a normal signal (and no one knows of a device to correct this). The same experts have suggested the only fix is to keep the bose amp in place and wire to the front left channel; however, if I do this then I would have audio through this also. I do not want audio thru the bose speaker.
Is there a configuration to fix this problem.
Any help, MUCH appreciated
Thanks in advance !!!

Hey Chud
I am in the process of swapping out the Bose speakers on my 07 LTZ to Polk Audio speakers all around, although I decided (for now) to leave the existing sub and amp. There was some discussion elsewhere on this forum about swapping out the Bose, so do a search and see what else you might be able to find out. I will be watching the responses myself.

By using the Bose Amp Bypass PAC -OEM1 ( AOEM-GM1416) for GM LAN Vehicles, everything should work just fine. The OEM Navi unit was meant to be used with a amp. But with that adapter, people were able to install the factory Navigation with out the bose amp in place and they say that everything works like normal. The data for the onstar is sent via a different set of wires ( or LAN data ) that is already in the wiring harness and is comunicated back through the headunit which should mute the music and convert the data back to sound to send it through the speakers. The adapter is plug and play, I would try it out first. Search the forum about installing the nav unit in a tahoe LS (without bose) for more info. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I called PAC, all their techs insist that the Bose amp must remain installed, and to install a Bose speaker on the front left channel for Onstar, Nav and chimes; however, music will be heard from the Bose speaker (I dont like that!!). The requirement for the Bose amp (per Pac) allows Onstar to turn on while the vechicle is off.
After reviewing your detailed information, it looks as if you are knowledgable about which you speek. I am going to try to run a test this weekend. I am hoping that you are correct and all fuctions are available when the Tahoe is on and off. I am installing 3-amps and one of the amps would fit well within the Bose location. If you are not correct and all will work within the Bose while on but not off, then I will relay the bose "off" during vechile on and "on" while vechile off. (just thought of that) And if that works - problem solved!
Thanks Again
and as always, anything to share, I will read

What do you mean by "install a Bose speaker on the front left channel for Onstar, Nav and chimes; however, music will be heard from the Bose speaker (I dont like that!!)?" What are you saying this is for, or why PAC is saying this?

According to PAC, relocate front left (drivers) Bose speaker to under dash and use the existing wiring to connect (which is the front-left).
The front-left is the speaker that has onstar, nav and chimes. All other speakers mute during the use of onstar, nav and chimes.
Once again I am removing all the bose speakers, inc. tweets in rear "d" pillar, doors and sub (under front of console); therefore, I will take the drivers speaker and locate under dash (per PAC)

Not sure why you need the Bose for the Nav and Onstar.
I have swapped out all the Bose in the front so far and replaced with Polk's Moma series tweeters in the pillars and Polk Moma's in the front doors and the Nav and Onstar work fine through the new speakers.
Could not believe how cheap looking the GM Bose are. With only half swapped out so far there is still a noticable improvement in dynamic range. Looking forward to getting the rest swapped out.

Did you ever figure this out?
I want to replace the Bose system too.
Looking at an Alipine amp, JW stealth sub, and not sure about speakers yet.
However, I do not want to run into issues with the navigation or onstar not working correctly.
Please let us know!

Try checking right above the radio near the center a/c ducts, I'm pretty sure there are two harnesses that have only speaker leads (as well as power and ground) that you can use. I put a double din in my car I had the Bose and Onstar with factory dvd (no nav) for roof console. Works perfectly.
