My 2005 Gas Suburban cranks a little longer than it used to before it starts & the key acts like it wants to stay in the start position before it fires up. I had the fuel injection service performed last week but nothing changed. It has 84k miles on her. It gets 16 mpg overall and runs smooth. I think the next step is to check the plugs...what do you think?

Fuel pump is going bad. Have a tech check your fuel pressure while it starts and while its running. Mine did the same thing and replaced the fuel pump and all is good now

Sounds like a fuel pump issue to me as well. Should check fuel pressure after sitting overnight and while running.

Any idea on the cost to replace the fuel pump?

Replacing the fuel pump will solve your problem. I had the same thing happen, but I went a different route. It is the check valve in the fuel pump assembly that is bad, not the pump itself. I put a check valve in the fuel line near the tank and my truck went back to normal. It was fairly cheap and easy to do.

At first glance I too would suspect the fuel pump, but its best ( and cheaper) to check the pressure first... if you are seeing low or erratic pressure readings then as suggest above its likely the check valve or the pump...

If you do replace the pump, consider how long you plan to keep the vehicle... if not very much longer you can go aftermarket which = cheaper but if you plan to keeping the vehicle a few more years go with OEM = not cheap...

An OEM pump can run ~$400.00 an aftermarket one ~$200 you get what you pay for.... and OEM can last 10+ years aftermarket as little as 6-12 months or just enough to get it out of the warranty period..

Stick with Delco or Delphi pumps if you want one that lasts.

I've got the same thing- check valve is bad on the pump. Where did you install the check valve, and where'd you find the check valve you used? Still running well?

My mechanic charged me $800 to replace the pump on my '01. Probably didn't help that I'd just filled it up when the pump died.
