takes too long to start

I was interested in the low cost solution, but ended up buying the pump from a vendor on Ebay. My mechanic suggested the fuel pump with level sensor would be $480, but I got the OE for $250 shipped. Man, what a mark up they get at full retail! It's a 3 hour operation, and at the mechanics labor rate that should come to another $230. All in, I'll get my job done for what the part cost at retail.

If your truck is starting , you might try running the tank down just to make a it a bit easier, otherwise you will need to drain it into several 5 gallon gas cans...

The truck starts, but the crank time varies from mid-cycle to the beginning of the second cycle (you know, turn the key, release and the truck starts itself....that cycle). I don't have the facilities to do the job myself. I have a good local shop that can do it in around 3 hours at $75 an hour. I'll presume that since they've done a number of these and I've done none, that they'll do a better job. Certainly, I'll run it as close to empty as I can before running it in to help them out.

Your shop will most likely put it up on a rack and have the room to work with the tank partially full, and will most likely drop it without draining it...
but I am sure they will appreciate the effort of making it a lighter tank..
