Default well..

it's part of the ECM; Engine Control Module, designed to 'control' (limit) the amount of torque going into the transmission under certain conditions.

IE: if you floor it off the line, that could be 'bad' (damaging) to the transmission, axles, gears, etc.... so the computer says OK, they want max power, but weighs that against long term component reliability.

it then, thus, manages it's output to a more appropriate level considering all the components.

It can be frustrating that your brand new 300+ HP engine doesn't light up the back tires off the line, but the fact that it speeds up nicely, tows well, and lasts 5-10 years is less frustrating.

Many people will use 'tuners' or other programmers to remove this feature, which allows them to be in 'full control' of the throttle.

generally this type of device voids the warranty, and may cause other issues. However, yes I concede it may allow you to 0-60 faster.

it may also include features such as transmission temp sensors, engine temp sensors, load sensors, etc... all feeding the control system to ensure you don't do anything stupid w/your engine.

Even my Wrangler won't let me slam it in reverse at more than 5 MPH forward.

I used to be able to in my old one... coming home I'd pull in the driveway, coasting around 10 MPH, and just throw it in R, then when I got closer to 5 I'd hit the gas slightly to back into the garage.

Nope, not on my 2012. It says "HEY, NO, bad driver! don't do that"!

these features do have your best interest in mind... your wallet.

but if you want to bang into every shift, punch it off the line, and wear out your vehicle, that's your choice 'Merica!

my 2012 JK also won't let you rev it in N then drop it in drive.

If you do, you're limited to 3-4K max RPM in N, then when you drop it in drive, it disconnects the throttle for 5 seconds, allowing the engine to return to idle before you're actually in drive.

All electronic, and all to stop you from having fun. I mean being stupid.

Well said. For what it's worth, the Black Bear Performance tune can remove just some of the torque management.

Wow, I think that was your longest post without mentioning Tesla. And it was a perfect opportunity, too.

I'm proud of you. Have a cookie.

I had Blackbear dial it back a little. Forget if I had them do 25% or 50% TM reduction. For a 6500-lb truck, it now gets off the line scary-quick, and goes from 70 to triple digits in a hurry. 0-60 is under 8 seconds, probably closer to 7.

I figured mine can take a little extra abuse, with the 6.0, 6L90 and full-floater rear axle. Seemed to work well dragging my 6500-lb travel trailer out west to Grand Canyon and Colorado (including the Ike gauntlet). Logged over 5500 towing miles on that trip. Total weight was 14,500 lbs.

Torque Management in any electric vehicle will be superior. Because the computer can instantly control the torque and RPM of the motor closer to the wheels, without drive shafts, transmissions, or silly torque converters in between; the system reacts much, must faster than any dino burning antique ever could.

Anyway; I HAVE NEWS, (Since you asked). My wife is now the primary driver of what was my 2009 Tahoe LTZ.

I got tired of waiting for the Model X, and realized that even if I order now, it will be 2016 before it's mine...

So, like any sane and logical person... I'VE ORDERED A USED MODEL S!!! why? because it's cheaper than new, and I can get it... NOW NOW NOW NOW.

OK, not now, I pick it up on the 14th, but still... TESLA!

So long gas stations!

My wife will also end up with the Model S (when I get the X) because she likes sedans more anyway... so it's going to be a two tesla family soon! lol

I have the parts to install the NEMA 14-50 in my gargage this weekend, and I may install the 80 amp charger as well... charges at 60 MPH in your own home!

My estimates put me at saving $200/month in fuel, and $5,000,0000 worth of awesomeness! lol. ($300/month gas in Tahoe vs $100/month electric in car).

Kiss my Electrons!

And, lest any of you get the misconception I'm some sort of hippy.. I'm still planning to burn disgusting amounts of gasoline in my Chris Craft with original OMC 460 King Kobra baby.

Nothing sounds like a carb 460

Ohh; hey Burbs: https://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motora...170957428.html

this is funny

Good news / bad news.

Good news: Tesla now has a CPO program that offers a 6 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper with a reconditioned car!

Bad news: It's going to be about 2 weeks until I get mine in.

I have my VIN, and it's sitting in NJ being 'reconditioned'. right now.

2013 Black on Black, 85, Tech, sound, and suspension, with dual chargers

I plan to flat black plasti-dip the whole thing to make it look evil and protect the paint.

Just out of Curiosity, how many cans of plati-black would it take to do a Tahoe?
