Default Towing with 2018 Suburban

Hi - anyone have experience pulling a 7000 lb Airstream (25FB Globetrotter) with a 2018 Suburban WITHOUT the max trailering package? Truck is rated at 6000 lb max without the max trailering package. I believe the only difference between the “regular” tow package and the max is 3.08 gears vs 3.42 gears. I believe the frame, axles, engine (5.3L), hitch are all identical. Thank you.

It's not just the gear ratio, it's the coolers. The max trailering package adds, and I'm not sure exactly which ones, engine oil, power steering, and/or transmission coolers. So yes, your Suburban is going to have to work harder to pull the trailer with the 3.08 gears, and it's going to get even hotter because it doesn't have the additional cooling. If I were you I'd proceed with caution.

And would be concerned with voiding any existing warranty if something breaks

My 2018 premier actually has both the external oil cooler and the external trans fluid cooler and temperature gauge on the driver info center. So I do believe the only difference is the gears.

While there's no mention of additional coolers, this is from the Chevy website...

Right I think no mention of coolers in the max package since they are already included as standard on 2018 premier. Trailer brake controller is something I would need to add. Two speed transfer case adds 4 low but I shouldn’t need that while towing in normal circumstances I would think. My suspension is Z95 vs Z85 included with max package. Z95 is magnetic ride control with leveling shocks in rear.
