Default Transmission Drive problems ???

I recently purchased a 1994 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 Silverado with 160k miles.

The transmission fluid is full and very dirty.

When the car is cold it works okay but shifts hard

When it warms up it feels like it has a slight shudder

When it shudders I can let off the gas and when I step on the gas again it usually stops the shudder for a short time.

The other day I drove it for a couple hours and it would barely go until I let the car sit till it was cool then it worked ok again.

How do I determine what transmission I have and what do you think the problem is?
