Default Transmission R&R Question

Hello - recently had the tranny rebuilt in our 2005 Suburban 1500 5.3, 79,000 miles. Seems to shift and operate fine now, but there is a new sound, kinda like an exhaust leak but not sure, and I did see drops of water coming out of an exhaust connection when cold.

Question: did any part of the exhaust need to be removed to r&r the tranny? If so, I will have the shop fix it.

Second question: is it normal for these trans to combust so early? Only towed periodically and we drive easy on it. What are recomendations to extend the life of these tranny's?

Please reply - thanks!

To extend the life, flush the trans, and change the filter every 50,000miles or so. I'm not sure if your exhaust had to be removed to r2 the trans. Not very common for them to blow that early.

I would recommend on putting a trans cooler on there. I have my stock one along with another one from B&M.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes, I had it flushed at ~50,000.
Yes, it has the tow kit w/ cooler from the factory.

Just seems like there is a better way to build a mouse trap. Professional grade - really? Really?
