Default Update Failed - Return to Dealer

Woke up Sunday morning and found this on my 2021 Suburban main display. Has anyone else experienced this?

On the plus side, the vehicle still drives so I'm not stuck. Feels like I'm back in the 80's - no radio/music/podcasts, no bluetooth/handsfree, and no map.

I found this TSB that appears to address my issue, but the dealer wants me to drop it off tomorrow for them to 'inspect' it.

Update May 2023: My dealer could not repair the glitch so they ended up replacing the entire entertainment system. It was a slippery slope for a while there because I was 500 miles beyond my warranty. I was calling "bs" on that so they eventually gave in and covered it.

It appears the "over the air update" procedure failed midway even though I was nowhere near the truck at the time. Not a fan of these updates. Wish they were only hardware update either at the dealer or through a flash drive. Crossing my fingers this one won't fail.

Default Anyone gotten help??

I have been quoted $1,300 to fix this issue, but I can’t figure out why it’s not a recall. There’s been a TSB put out, but no recall. I understand those are different, but if you have to put out a TSB, maybe some
investigating needs to be done about the issue. I have spoken with GM to see what their thoughts are because $1,300 is a lot of money to pay for something that went wrong because of an update that I did not do. If anybody has any thoughts on this or has gotten any sort of help fixing the issue without paying an astronomical amount of money, please let me know!

Tammy,

I agree, $1300 is butt-load of money to replace the entire infotainment system simply because an "over the air" update failed. That's a failure point in their system. When the update runs, you can't drive the car. How is it your fault? How can that be labeled "wear & tear"? I'd prefer to only have the dealer perform the update and would be willing to pay $25 each time so I don't get blamed for a faulty update procedure.

Ask the dealer to help you fight Chevrolet to cover this one-time replacement. Also ask the service department to configure the system so it will NOT automatically run an "over the air" update. You can take it to the dealer every 4-6 months and let them handle it.

That said, I have performed 2 updates on my truck while parked in the driveway since having the new system installed. I took photos of the notice before & after it started. That way, if it failed, I could show them that the update failed without any interference from me. Sometimes, technology can be too much of a hassle.

Good luck.

Default 2021 chevy Blazer. Same problem

I have the same issue with my 2021 Chevy Blazer that just occurred on March 4 2024. I called GM after I saw the other models for the same year does actually have a recall. They took my information and is escalating the issue too senior advisors. The phone number to contact them is 866.790.5600. They are to call back within 2 days.

I hope they resolve this issue for you at no charge. Send them link to this thread as evidence of other people having a similar issue.

Since having the new system installed, I document EVERY over-the-air update my truck receives while it sits in the driveway. I won't allow Chevrolet to blame me for a poorly designed checks & balance software update glitch.

My 2021 High Country Tahoe radio just failed with an over the air update. I am getting the same image. I am being quoted almost $2500 to fix it GM has offered to pay for $500 but has not guarantee that it wont happen again. My car is out of the bumper to bumper warranty timeline. I took my car to a sound specialist to replace it with another radio but I was told that it can only be replaced with the GM product as it is a crucial part to the car. I am going back and forth with General Motors and just filed with NHTSA.gov to report a safety problem.
