Default Vent switches

Hello everyone .... New to the forum but not new to Chevy's as you can see I own 3.

I bought a used Burb that came from Tx to Ct and the body, frame etc are not rusted out which is typical here but it needs some mechanical repairs which I don't mind.

Question is:
I cant get the heat/ac to switch from the window defrost ??? I turn the **** and it doesn't cycle to floor then face just stays on window.

Any help on how to tackle would be greatly appreciated.

Ok after researching this it appears that it could be the mode door actuator. Has anyone trouble shot this? replaced it?

According to my research this actuator is buried unlike the blend door actuator which is behind the shrowd above the passengers feet ....

Thanks

I'm in the process of replacing it right now. Excellent choice by GM for part placement, lol.

Junk are you replacing the blend door or mode door ? Hopefully the mode door (the door that selects which location heat/cool air comes out ) and you will provide some tips maybe a detail write up on how to swap it out ? ??

Location - yea its right behind the console buried ......

I haven't started but I will be using this website to help me. It is very detailed though and looks pretty easy, just time consuming.

Yup, they are looking to upgrade since they plan on keeping the airframe another 25 years or so. BTW, I got that actuator out last night. Still easy using the link I provided but it'll be fun putting it all back together. Also the parts stores want around $140 for the part but I ordered it on Amazon for $48. It's a Dorman part with a lifetime warranty.

I got it installed finally. When I removed all of the bolts and screws, I had them all lined up in order and I came in one day and I guess my son must have thrown a ball or something and they were all knocked over and I had to sort them all out. Well, I got it all back in and works great. All I had was one extra screw, lol. It was one of the accessory panel screws...no biggie. I didn't really have time to snap pics or a how to but the link I had was still valid.
