Default VSS switch cutoff

I read up on a few articles that talked about unlocking the Navigation directions entry while driving above 5 mph. So I decided to put a switch in myself in my suburban. Works like a charm. The switch is on all the time. When I want to enter directions while driving, I cut off the VSS using the switch and the menu items become available. Here is a picture of the switch and location I placed mine. I purchased the switch from Radio Shack. http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062523

Just figured I would post this as a $6 option instead of the lockpick which I heard has many issues for the 2009s.

What wire do you put the switch on? can you take a picture of the back of your unit? Did it also unlock the DVD viewing while in motion?

For my truck the VSS wire was connected to PIN 5 on the C4 radio connector. If you do a search on OEM navigation install, there are plenty of discussions regarding the location of this wire with a few diagrams and pictures.

It does not allow for video in motion just the navigation directions entry.

Talking Really?

Ohh hot damn, are you serious?! it lets you enter addresses / scroll address book on the go?!

do you have more photos?! what year Tahoe is yours?!

MORE INFO PLEASE!

That's the exact switch I wired in to my Wrangler for when I take the doors off (to keep the dome light off)

If this mod works, I will be doing it!

I also like your center console more than the one in my LTZ. I need to find that one and ebay my LTZ wood grain one... the LS/LT one holds more stuff and is better at doing what a car should do... HOLD THINGS.

Where is the easiest place to tap this wire? behind the unit or is there a place under the dash?

I even like your hidden switch location, it's easy to reach, but not really visible to the driver...

Ha, yes very serious.

I have 2009 Suburban LT2 loaded with everything except the damn NAV! Go figure. So I just installed the unit myself and while I was doing it, I put the switch in.

The location of the VSS wire behind the radio is where I would tap into it for the switch.

Yes I agree about the center console in the LTZ. it is useless for storage. That big empty "pan" is perfect to throw everything in when I plop down for my drive. The console bezel just pops out with 5 clips. Pull it up from the arm rest area first because there are two tabs on the other end that slide into the dash portion. The bezel must be slid towards the armrest when all the clips are out to remove the tabs from their slots.

sweet; now i want to do this; anyone link me to the 09 wiring diagrams?

However the voice commands for my destinations still don't work right... Do yours?! Have you used them?

and if the dealer finds some random wires behind the dash; they might blame me for the destination thing (I have not modified anything to date).... and still have rattles / squeeks in my drivers door... maybe this week I will have time to inspect it...

Yes my voice commands work now. You need to hold the SOURCE button on the sterring wheel. Not the onstar/mute button. All the voice recognition functions work except the navigation goto destination [voice tag] is sketchy. It misses the goto portion and brings me to navigation help about 80% of the time.

Did you install your NAV or did it come with Nav? I can't get traffic to work yet but I think its a BCU programming issue so I odered an updated tech 2 from ebay and will program it this week.

Default voice commands

100% factory baby. LTZ with sat nav and brake controller... black, was my requirement for my new one.

As for voice commands, yes I am holding SRC, and saying 'Destination, Go To, My House'... and IF it works, which it does 5% of the time, it will work 100% for 'my house, dads house, moms house' etc 90-100% perfect.

THEN... I shut the truck off for X minutes (1 to 100) then try it again... no matter what I say "Destination, go to, Y" or "Destination, go to hell" it will ALWAYS 100% say "Navigation Help"

it's been to the dealer 25 or so odd times, GM has a priority BS on it, it's been 6 months, it hasn't worked since new (6 miles on the clock when I bought it)...

Everything else like "Radio 20, XM" works 85% correctly, which is acceptable.

But I freqently go to a destination, new to me, and want to go home after; which is where I would say 'Destination, Go To My House' and it fails, which makes me want to drive it into the nearest tree and be done with it...
