That is an urban legend.
But it generally is considered to be best if you pick a weight and a brand/type of oil and try to stick with it if you can.

Obvoiusly you say run synthetic, but as for weight 5w-30? Is that the best all year round oil. If climate matters I am in MO.

5W-30 year round in MO no problem.

If you use synthetic then you will want to use 5W-30 in any climate but if you use conventional oil then you may want to go thinner (0W-30) in extreme cold (-10F or less) and 10W-30 if you normally operate at temps over 100F.

Another side note is that we picked up a few ponies and ft/lbs running synthetic vs. conventional oils.

So in regards to oil changes, anybody else experience having trouble finding oil filters for your '07 Tahoe. I called 4 different chains and they said they don't carry filters for the new Tahoe yet. So now im wondering, is it the same filter for an '06? Im assuming it isn't.

Hey everyone,
Dropped my 07 Tahoe off at the dealership for some warranty work and an oil change,
I was wondering if anyone knows what oil they use? regular/synthetic, etc.
$29.99 for oil/filter/lube/check fluids and tire pressure.

With synthetic going at about $5-$6/qt and 07s using six qts, that's $30-$36 just for oil. Now I'm sure dealers probably get it a little cheaper than you or I could but probably not that much less. I betting you got regular oil.

The dodge forums I use to visit always mentioned some synthetic oil that was "the best". Better than Mobil 1. I cant think of the brand right now. All i know it is hard to get your hands on. I believe locally where I am at it is sold out of a persons garage, NOT a joke.

Anyone know the brand I am trying to think of?

JUST GOT IT, yeah. AMSOIL! Does anyone have experience with oil?

GM has a couple of standards that it uses to certify GF-4 spec’d motor oils, the first standard is called GM6094M for engines requiring conventional motor oils although both conventional and synthetic oils can be certified and registered under this test, any manufacturer can submit their product for testing and approval, currently there are 69 different motor oils that are registered to meet GM6094M spec’s. Mobile-1 is one of them but Amsoil has never submitted any of its products for testing by GM.

There is also another similar certificate called GM4718M for synthetic motor oils, there are 6 motor oils currently certified and once again Mobile-1 is there and Amsoil is not.

I’m not saying that Amsoil isn’t a good product but I would forego the use of any oil that hasn’t been certified to pass GM6094M spec’s.

There is a lot of talk in internet forum’s with some people stating that Amsoil’s motor oil is rated GM6094M but in reality it isn’t, I have the latest list dated Aug 17, 2006
