Tahoe & Suburban The power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.

I like the new style, just needs some getting used to. I have a 2008 3/4 ton with a 6 liter engine. The 5.3 engine now has the same torque and horsepower as the 6 liter used to have. The two speed transfer case (Auto Trak) that is included, has served me well, having survived 150,000 miles so far. I never use 4 low, but the best feature is you can set it in auto when on dry surfaces and it only goes into 4 wheel drive when it senses slippage on the road.

I never really considered a Burb for 4 wheeling. The wheelbase is so long, the hitch receptacle will dig into the ground when climbing out of a deep dip then up a steep bank. However, nice to have the tow hooks and a real skid plate instead of the plastic one like I have. Apparently it has a down hill engine/transmission “braking” feature that could be useful. Cool vehicle.

Thanks Suburban Dude.
I too like the new style.
I'm thinking they may be about the same but with 2015 being the first year of this style they may have made some changes to the 2016 and 2017.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks Guys!

For what it’s worth, no difference in the engines. They are 5.3 liter L-83 egines, with direct injection, and aluminum heads and blocks. They’re considered Gen 5 engines, first introduced in 2014.

After looking for a month or so have pulled the trigger on a 2017 Suburban LT with the Z71 package with 15k miles.
Ice silver in color, so far so good. Trying to figure out all the buttons.
Hope its as good as the 03.

The only thing to really be concerned about is the AFM...I deleted mine in my 07 Tahoe.

Not an issue in 2015-up models.

The AFM system was redesigned in 2014 when they changed the 5.3 to the Gen 5 design. Just make sure to use Dexos approved oil and your AFM should be reliable.
