Default What Exhuast to upgrade too?

I am looking to add a K&N airfilter and an exhaust but don't know which on to go with. I also want to know how many more MPG did you get when you did such an upgrade?

Thanks
Tom

I went with Magnaflow, as have many others...great sounding outside, but still quiet inside, no drone...haven't noticed very much in mpg improvement, but then again, with summer here I use the a/c 24/7 as opposed to a few months back I rarely used it...

But don't expect huge gains in mpg no matter who you go with...

X2 on the Magnaflow. Nice setup!

As far as a mpg increase, I saw my mileage go up .5 mpg with the addition of the Magnaflow, but then lost that half a gallon after installing the GM CAI 2K miles later (This is withonly 5% highway driving and a Superchips installed before those 2 mods). Don't expect much if any mpg increase with those mods. My Superchips however got me an additional 1 mpg increase.

Welcome to the forum. I finally got the time to install my GM Performance exhaust today, two hours start to finish. Sounds great, throaty at idle and acceleration and quiet on the road. Now have to find the right tip.

Highly recommend the purchase of the special tool to remove the rubber hangers from the factory exhaust. Only cost $20 and saved a lot of four letter words.

ha,ha I remember those rubber isolators! But I was able to effectively use my Channel Lock pliers to get them off easily and without damage, just took a little trial and error...but yes, if you have the tool, will make life easier.

It would be smart to do one of those forum rental deals. Have one person buy it and then "rent" it to another person who then rents it to another.

funny i was thinking of upgrading my exhaust but was afraid to b/c i didnt want to lose the quietness of the ride in my tahoe. I had a z71 with loud pipes and got so tired of them.

but if yall are really liking these magnaflow exhaust and think it want take away from the quite ride inside my tahoe give me some input b/c i really want my truck to be a little sportier...
thanks

I could see that on a say $100 tool, but for a $20 tool, the shipping would make it impractical.

Where do you get the tool? I just ordered the GM performance exhaust today and I would like to have the tool before the exhaust comes.

thanks!

I got mine at a local tool supplier, Clark Tool. The tool is a Lisle 38350.

Here's a good deal: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lisle...QQcmdZViewItem

If you are doing it in a driveway on jack stands, don't make your cut too far back on the kickup over the axle as it will make it impossible to get the muffler assy off the truck. At least that's what I discovered. Just barely got mine out. And you'll have to lower the spare and remove the heat shield to get the new tailpipe in. Also advise to reinstall the heat shield even tho there's no resonator heat there. No use abusing the spare and it doesn't weigh much. Speaking of which, the old muffler assy weighs a ton so cut before you disconnect the hangers. Oh yeah, use a good rust penetrant like Kroil or PB Blaster on the two front bolts cause they will be tough to break loose if you have many miles on it. And unfortunately they are headless bolts pressed in the flange so if they spin, you'll have to cut them out. I guess Chevy didn't expect you to be able to remove them without a torch wrench, so they put two new bolts in with the clamps. Good luck.
