Default What to look for when shopping for a 99 Burb

I'm looking to purchase a 99 Burb. Last GM vehicle I had was a beastly 94 GMC K2500 diesel that I traded in 5 years ago for a family car

Is there anything specific i should be looking for in common issues with the 99 Suburbans? My wife wants me to get a mini-van but NO FREAKIN WAY!!!

The reason i'm looking at a 99 is because i don't have a ton of cash and the newer models have that Cockpit type feel that makes it too closed in. I test drove a 02 yesterday and even in that giant burb it felt tight. Granted, i'm 6' 4 ~ 250 lbs and no i'm not fat.

Thanks,
Mike

Welcome to the forum..
Off the top of my head things I can think of that where common for the 96-99 Tahoe/ Suburbans with the 2wd 5.7 are:
(Based on my 97 Tahoe)
transmissions ( I went trhu 2 4L60E 11K and 107K)
Fuel pumps ( I went thru one 1 90k )
Fuel injection ( poppets and injectors @ 100K)
Front brake rotors & pads ( 3 sets of pads 2 sets rotors about every 40K)
Radiator (1 at about 97K leaked at oil cooler fitting)

Other then that I thought It was a pretty damn good vehicle and would still be driving it if it weren't totaled 3 yrs ago when a Buick pulled out in front of me...

On my ex-wifes 99 Tahoe 5.7 4x4 ( yes I still work on my ex-wifes vehicle...go figure...she got it used from her sister so I am not fully aware of all the other repairs)

I replaced:

Radiator , crack at top oil cooler line fitting
Pads and Rotors
Drivers side inside door handle

I'll bet the Buick didn't fare very well then if it totaled your Tahoe.

Default '99

the '92-99 was the same, the 2000-2006 is the newer design.

and the 07 is the newest...

I'd try for a 2003-2006 as most of the problems of the 2000 and '99 and older should be fixed.

1999 was not a good year for the Suburbans:

I know this is an old post, but to flag an issue.

The 99s went out of the factory with the wrong brake proportioning valve, which put too much pressure on the front. There was a TSB on point. I went through front rotors annually. Finally retrofitted Stainless Steel discs all the way around because I was tired of the shimmy from warped rotors.
