My dealer's service does all of those checks whenever it's in for anything.

That being said, I think $580 for a water pump replacement was a rip.

Default stuff

wow thats a lot of stuff

anyway; I changed my own oil last weekend.

poured the used oil into a 1 gallon container. that originally contained RV antifreeze (jet ski winterized).

and the rest into the 5 qt 'new' oil container.

GUESS which one didn't pass advance auto's new used oil inspection policy...

I'm sure you now guessed from the tone of my post.

Yea, the one in the new oil container.

they stuck a sniffer in it, and said it failed. So we now had to 'properly dispose of used motor oil in accordance with local laws' ya know, either that or it fell off the truck some where.

1. if they want us to recycle used oil, why do they make it so hard?
2. why would the container of used oil in the antifreeze jug pass, (it was rinsed out before the oil)

and the oil in the new oil jug not?!

IT MAKES NO SENSE.

what do those sniffers sniff for? they check the air above the oil. I'll Wikipedia that now... and yes, wiki is now a verb!

My Advance Auto store makes you take your oil to the back of the store and dump it yourself. Yuk!

You should have them sniff an empty new oil container and a full one.

what the heck - sniff your used oil????????? here you can simply take it back to any wal mart or autozone - or anywher you buy new oil can take old oil to recycle. Recycling does NOT work unless it is easy no matter what the product is - stupid government
