Tahoe & SuburbanThe power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.
Well, Mrs. Cusser had another vehicle accident yesterday, in the Yukon. Unlike the 2022 accident, this one was likely 90% her fault, even if the other driver actually sped up to prevent Martha from merging in.
Insurance will handle the damage to the woman's Navigator, likely a few thousand dollars in today's economy.
Knowing that a body shop would want to order all parts new for the Yukon, including small parts and the Yukon could be at such body shop a month, and that any insurance-provided rental vehicle would not be suitable to tow a horse, I've decided to try getting the Yukon back into shape myself, as only plastic parts were involved. I took off the bumper cover yesterday, the top grille came off in the accident, all is cheap plastic these days.
So I tried JB Weld on some of the broken stuff, Martha said she was OK with inner metal plates and rivets to get/keep the bumper cover into shape rather than buying a new bumper cover and getting it painted, or buying a pre-painted bumper cover; it seems that the JB Weld will work on the cracked parts, so they must not be polyethylene or polypropylene..
The Cuss - like Willie Nelson - back on the road again !!!
Well, I had to fabricate a mount for the bumper cover on the driver side and for the top of the bumper cover on one side, and also home-engineer to use two screws at the bottom of the grille to secure it because GM's broke in the fender bender or broke when previous owner had someone change bulbs or whatever. I needed Martha to lean on the bumper cover so I could get it back into place, that alone took almost an hour because I used a Simpson Strong Tie as replacement for the broken plastic mount, just had to drill 5/16" holes 70mm apart. Touch up paint will arrive in a week.
It's beyond belief that the plastic bumper cover is held in place by clips at the side, two screws at the top, and two screws underneath. And the upper grille is pretty impossible to get one's hand in there to release the bottom four plastic tabs (which did break off anyway in the fender touching.
Yes, Mrs. Cusser was unscathed !!! I examined her for injuries.
