Default Why I may never buy another GM AKA: I Hate "Lawyer Mode"

Why I may never buy another GM

I have a term I use, "Lawyer Mode." It may more accurately be "Corporate Board Room / Limit Our Liability / We Are Afraid of Lawyers Mode" but I simply call it Lawyer Mode.

I hate Lawyer Mode. Here is some of what falls under lawyer mode:
I can't work my OEM nav over 5MPH, not even my co-pilot, COME ON!
The buttons for the memory positions of the driver's seat are disabled when not in Park.
The adjustable pedals are disabled when not in Park.
The DRLs cannot be easily permanently disabled (don't tell me to turn the switch counter clockwise, I said permanently)
The automatic headlights have a mind of their own, at dusk are they on or off, gee, I have no idea what my car is doing right now. A side effect of this is that when pulling out of my garage, the backup camera image on the OEM nav screen is so dark, I can't see it. Thanks auto dimming, that I cannot override all because someone decided to make DRLs hard to defeat! This is what led to the auto headlights and auto dimming sensor in the first place. The original DRLs would be on, drivers would not turn on headlights so no interior lights so the auto headlights are a solution to this problem that comes from GMs desire for forced DRLs.
Cannot set cruise control under a certain speed simply because someone decided that is how it should be.
Now don't get me wrong, some of those make sense and I don't really need to adjust my pedals while driving or set cruise control at 15MPH but what if I did? Nope, can't do it.
I'm sure there are lots more ways the GMs are protecting us from our stupid selves but really protecting GM from litigation.

What else have I missed that could be added to "Lawyer Mode?"

Reminds me of a lawyer joke; How many lawyer jokes are there?

Three, the rest are all true stories.

My Ford has a three position headlight switch, Off, Parking lights and On. I have NEVER wondered if those lights were on or off.
My Volvo allows me to disable DRL AND move the seat to different memory positions while driving.

The ride I am most specifically speaking of is a 2006 Suburban LTZ 6.0 1500 3.73 with automatic EVERYTHING but deleted DRLs & stupid seat belt reminder. And yet I still have lights in poor visibility and buckle up, go figure...

A lot of the things you mentioned are not just GM, like the not using nav while driving. You wanna see something that will really get under your skin google the most American made vehicles and you'll find out that title belongs to Toyota and Honda now.

The only thing on your list that I agree with is the NAV, but I use a Garmin now.

Seems you might be happier in a Ford. Enjoy.

I hear the frustration and understand the reasoning... however there are those out there that are less then bright when they are behind the wheel of 5000 pounds of steel moving at 60 miles an hour.... and yes they will try to adjust the seat or fidget with the navi, adj the peddles, move the mirrors at those speeds... and quite frankly I really don't want those (pardon my french) dumb-asses doing that and crossing into my lane... and yes if it did happen and accident ensued, I would sue, or hope my survivors would sue the crap out of the dumb-***, his insurance, the manufacture of any device that allowed for the disabling of safety features....

I am not a litigious person, but unless you are willing to take on complete and total full responsibility for your actions in your vehicle and the mods made to it... its best to leave safeties in place...after all they are for not only your safety but others....
Just sayin...

Default Tpms

what about the knee jerk TPMS all cars now have?

These safety features aren't why I hate my GM. my GM is just junk that breaks 24/7...

these safety gizmos are needed because 95% of America is borderline mentally handicapped...

I'd bet if there was a comprehensive exam including driving to get a license, half the folks would be pedestrians.

It's hard to text, eat a Big Mac, adjust the radio, and still be able to drive.

Funny, we keep seeing old ladies plowing through crowds of people but nobody will do anything because politicians are afraid of AARP. I would not pick on seniors, heck, I love seniors and with a little luck, *someday* I will be one myself. I agree completely with 73shark, thoroughly test EVERYONE.

However, I still want to be able to use my nav when safe to do so, even if that is at 6+ MPH. Or, not have to stop and put my vehicle in Park when I realize that the seat is in my wife's memory position and I want to change it to my setting. That one just infuriates me every time. I could manually adjust it while moving but that is more random and clumsy than simply pressing one button and being done with it. Oh well. After reading how easy it is do disable DRLs on the GMT900s and looking at the lockpicks available, maybe it is time for a Yukon XL 2500 and just learn to live with the "Lawyer Mode."

Did I mention: Why do sharks not eat lawyers?

Professional courtesy.

I have noting against lawyers, I don't even usually tell those jokes, just keeping with the theme I guess.

Also, did someone say they would sue my A$$ if I caused a wreck and had disabled safety features. I have not ever disabled any safety feature in any vehicle / device, ever. That was just me pretending to know what I was talking about. I actually love DRLs, seat belt chimes, automatic seat belts (that was a great idea!), automatic headlights, DVDs that don't play when the P-brake is off, doors that lock themselves, etc...

And I know it is not just GM but of everything I deal with, they are by far the worst. I hear the F150 Ecoboost is pretty sweet. The only trouble is three kids in the back seat would make Mom and Dad nuts on a long trip! The third row is truly a blessing.

I wonder, what did we all do before everything was done for us for our own protection and convenience? How did we make it this far?

Everyone else is responsible for our own actions nowadays. No personal ownership.
