Hi. Today it is 9 degrees out and my 2003 Suburban drivers window went down fine but only goes up slightly and stops. When I try to get it down again it seems to be stuck for a few seconds and then goes back down. I was able to pull it back up with a lot of effort and some odd noises but am afraid to have it stuck permanently down. I'm wondering if just replacing the motor is my solution or should I replace the motor and regulator together. I see the motor sold alone or assembled on the regulator. Is it easier to just replace them both at the same time. Also I see Dorman and AC Delco, is AC preferred? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

 

I'm not sure about the suburban but on the silverado its all one part and comes out with like 6 bolts. i would imagine its the same. I would go with ACdelco

 

I believe the regulator uses a st-st cable and on my wife's and also daughter's driver side rear door got to where they would only go down about tow inches. Turned out that the cable got frayed at the end and wouldn't go in the tube. They were both 2004s.

I looked at it and decided it was more than I wanted to attempt. I've replaced the old style gear drive regulators and they weren't any fun.

 

Sounds like the problem is the regulator. I have installed both Dorman and AcDelco the dare pretty equal in quality on regulator. Dorman's slogan is The problem Solvers or something like that. A lot of the time the fix anything that was a common problem with the original part if there was one. Go with which ever is least expensive.

Took out the regulator and it turns out the cable slipped off one of the pulleys. The motor is just about done too now, I guess from trying to overcome all the resistance. Glad I ordered the whole assembly as it looks like it would be more of a pain to remove just the motor.

 

I just installed one this weekend.

wasn't too bad a job for a shadetree mechanic.
