Default 2004 'burban engine swap (kind-of)

First time poster, long time reader here. I have a 2004 Suburban that has the 5.3L with the Z motor code in the VIN. I bought it used with "A LOT" of miles on it and recently it spun the crank bearings. A friend of mine has a 2005 5.3L with T motor code and probably the Variable Displacement Technology (VDT) option. What would I need to do to get his motor in my vehicle?

I know the VDT has most to do with the ECU and valves so would I be able to just swap heads and intake, and use my ECU and such or is it more involved them that?
