Default 2004 Suburban Starting Issue

My 2004 Chevrolet Suburban LT is now having a difficult time starting when first cranking after sitting for some time. It typically starts after 2-3 cranks and always starts right up again after it has been shutdown after running.

I do hear something energizing when I first turn the key on - not all the way to engage the starter. I have experimented and determined if I do this ~3 times for a few seconds each and then turn the key to engage the starter, the car always starts right up.

I suspect the car's problem is fuel related and am hoping it is not a complete fuel pump replacement. Any help out there to diagnose is appreciated. Thanks.

Default Sounds like you are hearing the fuel pump engaging when you turn the key

The buzzing/humming noise you’re hearing is most likely the fuel pump engaging. That’s a good thing. From what you described it sounds to me like you’re fuel pressure regulator or fuel pressure sensor might be the culprit. Good luck!

It is probably the check valve in the fuel pump assembly going bad. A few years ago I had that problem and I put a check valve in the fuel line near the tank and that solved my problem without having to change the fuel pump.
