Blower Motor/Resistor

Blower Motor/Resistor
We have a 2001 Suburban with Climate Control and the blower motor started acting up yesterday where it would only come on for a few seconds and then shut down again. I have read a bunch of threads and it sounds like it might be the resistor although all the threads I can find on this are vehicles without climate control. A new resistor is like $264 for the climate control systems. I want to make sure this is the issue before dropping that much money for the part. Any ideas other then the resistor? The blower sounded and worked fine right up until this started to happen.

WOW !, JJ, $264 is outrageous, for what's probably a synthetic pc board, and some coiled wire on it.
I've never replaced/repaired one on a newer vehicle with the Auto, but have on older Classics.
I've in some instances, been able to just pull the Board, and twist the coil back together where it had separated. I know this is not a real good fix, but frequently, the wire will "re-bond" it's self (sort of a spot weld) when you turn the system on high (current load does this).
This may help till you can do a Junk Yard search for a working Resistor Bank, and could be a permanent fix.
Just a few tips on this...
That wire is REAL brittle, you got to be careful how you twist it, usually I just made two hooks and hooked them together.
You might try doing a Silver Solder repair on it.
If your High Speed works and one or more of the lower speeds don't, it's the Resistor Bank.
If you don't have ANY motor control, look somewhere else, it's not the Resistor.

Thanks SWHouston. Here is link to the resistor for my truck, I was able to order it from the dealer for $170 (have to wait a few days for them to get it in). This resistor looks a lot different then those for vehicles without climate control, not sure you can get to the coil pack. Should also mention that mine also has auto speed control, not the speed selections 1-5.
