Default 2000 Tracker Crank sensor?

My son purchased a 2000 Tracker 2.0l 4x4. Its been running fine. Started it yesterday morning & it was running well. Left it for awhile to warm up & when he came back it was running very rough. Brought it to me & the catalytic converter was smoking when he arrived. Engine sounds like it's dropping one cylinder and when in gear at idle runs extremely rough, visibly rocking & bouncing. Oil level etc is fine. Friend with a code reader pulled a code P0335 crankshaft position sensor A circut. Does that make sense with these symptoms?

It does not. The crank sensor is only used to detect engine misfires. It does not affect engine performance.

Check out the live data and the other codes that are stored but not setting the Service Engine Soon light.

Then come back and explore this forum a little more. Somebody on here has already encountered your issue. I haven't yet...knock on wood.
