Default Heater Problem

Hello all. I am working on my Grandmothers 2001 Tracker ZR and the problem she is having is that there is no heat coming out of the vents and defroster unless the RPMS are above 2000 when selector is on outside air. The engine temperature is operating within normal ranges. Did not check it on recirculate to see if it functions properly. Any ideas wold be great. Thanks

Have you looked at the cabin air filters? There are two of them under the passenger side dashboard area.

I assume coolant level is up? My sub did this when the water pump was leaking and the coolant level dropped a bit. You could hear fluid turbulence in the heater core. Wonder if you have air trapped in the system?
