Default Help need advice!

Need to fix this myself! Have a 2004 6 CYL Chevy Tracker. It wouldn't come out of park. Finally got it to go into neutral so I could push it out of the way. When I went to put it back into park, it went but something broke. Now it will slide back and forth and its not hooked to anything, Have a feeling I broke the shifter cable or one of the attachments on either end. How hard of a job is it to fix it?? Can't find any specs to see what I need to look for etc. This is my only car and I really need to make it work. Can't afford a mechanic!! I have the owners manual but that doesn't help any. Have downloaded a repair manual but there is nothing in there that even talks about the shifter cable. Waist of money. Please help, thanks everyone!!
