Default motor swap

Hi All I am new here and am swaping a blown engine for an engine out of a wreck with 84,000 mi. I did a compression test and it read in the 180s and above in all 4 cylinders. I am considering replacing the oil pump now since it is easy. The car was hit hard on the drivers side, and colapsed the body to the frame mount. It also broke the drivers side motor mount. should there be concerns about bottom end damage. I heard the motor run and it fired up and ran with just a little clatter (could be because of the broken motor mount?) I have a rebuilt head and new timing chain and components. Should I go ahead and replace these, or should I put motor in and go with it,since all seems good with the engine. This is a parts car that I will be using to put two trackers back together. the wreck is a 1999, and am putting engine in a 1999, I have a 2000 that i rebuilt the head and put new timing kit in. It overheated and died on the higway. I havent checked compression , but it did fire right up after it cooled and ran until i put radiator cap on, it died immeadiately. this why I am leaning toward a blown head gasket, I was trying to keep new rebuilt head for this car, Or should I use ir for the engine swap. what else should I look to do on the swap engine, befor i put it in its new home. I hope I made it clear what type of advice I am looking for, besides the obvious new water pump and coolant hoses.. all of these cars are the 2.0. and 4 dr with the C vin number. Thanks for all advice that comes my way. Bill

I don't see how putting the radiator cap on would make it die. The cap; is rated at about 15#. 15# of pressure is nothing....unless your gasket is non-existent. Now, if that is the case....my guess is that your head is toast, gone, kaput or as the Mexicans say, no vale shi@ (it is not worth a...). But, only pulling the head will tell. If it is bad, just get a low mileage replacement.

How long did that motor run (the replacement)? If it has been sitting for 6 months, I would expect it to clatter for 15-30 seconds, real bad. Does that motor have hydraulic lifters? They might clatter until the motor is warm...especially after sitting for 6 months. My Mazda has hydraulic lifters, and it clatters for 1-2 minutes each time that it is started.

Personally, I wouldn't mess w/the motor. If it has any evidence of leaks, fix em. But, the oil pump is actually outside of the motor (if it is like my '90) and real easy to get to. Do you have a gage on the thing, or just a light. If you are planning on going that far, do both. Get a Black iron pipe tee at the hardware store on leave the sending unit on, and put in a gage. Put a gage on it, and if it is above 10# at idle, and then 10 extra # per 1,000 rpm, don't worry about it (those are Chevy V8 thoughts on oil pressure).
