Default Tracker engine died

Hi all, thought I'd throw this out to the masses. I have a 2001 Tracker 2.0 157k miles above average condition. I have owned it for 5 years and its previous life lived in Kentucky as an RV tow behind.
It developed a slight clicking or ticking noise in the front of the engine and as I was driving home it just died. No bang, boom, clatter it was just like the key was switched off. Wont start but turns over and sounds like no compression. Timing chain???
One mechanic who hasn't looked at it said with that particular engine when the timing chain goes it takes the valve train with it. ???? also said they are notorious for head gaskets failing. Said it would be more cost effective to find a used replacement engine. This one has always run tight and strong until now.

Any thoughts or experience?

Thanks.
Greg
