This compact SUV proved itself to be a fine ecnomical vehicle, good for making its way along any type of surface. Platform: CAMI (Suzuki)
It looks like OEM GM front struts are discontinued. Does anyone know where I can find OEM front struts? I'll even take good used ones. I've already tried aftermarket KYB struts and they did $2000 damage to my Tracker, so there's not enough bad things I can say about KYB.
I don't have photos, but the KYB struts I bought from Rock Auto were absolute garbage. In addition to the purchase price of the stuts, it cost $150 per side to have them installed, plus front end alignment cost, plus two new front tires cost. From the first day the struts destroyed my car. Hitting normal sized pot holes smashed to car so hard that both front hubcaps popped off, one headlight bulb blew, and now my steering wheel is 20 degrees off center. Also the dashboard now has permanent creaks, and the convertible hard top now shimmies and squeaks over every bump. The two new front tires tread are new on the outside and almost down to metal on the inside. in addition, both struts started leaking a week after I got them. So now I have to pay to return them and buy new struts, buy installation, buy an alighment, buy two new front tires, buy new hupcaps. Also the day the potholes busted the head light bulb, the state police pulled me over and gave me a ticket for no head light. So I can't say enough bad things about the junk KYB struts.
I was unaware aftermarket struts could do so much damage. I am concerned because I am still driving on the original OEM struts and if I need to replace them I don't know what to buy.
Well thats why I was looking for unused or used OEM struts, because I don't trust anything other than OEM now. But I did buy a used one from a junkyard a few days ago and it started leaking as soon as I took it out of the box. Or maybe someone can speak from experience of a good aftermarket brand that haven't destroyed their car. There are lots of aftermarket brands for the Tracker out there.
Fyi, I gave up and decided to buy Monroe struts. According to references their part number is original equipment interchangeable with the OEM struts. I'll report back in a few weeks if it turned out good or bad...
At least the Monroe struts are reasonably priced. I think they run about $60 on RockAuto? Just for fun I looked up the Suzuki OEM part number. According to Megazip they are still available but at a ridiculous price.
