Default 1989 Trailblazer AC Compressor Problem

My neice recently bought a 1989 Trailblazer with several problems. She is going to college with limited resources, and I promised I would help her out. The first one I want to address is the AC. When you turn the AC on the clutch on the compressor doesn't spin freely and puts a lot of resistance on the belt and stalls it. If you throttle up it will stay running but the belt smokes because of the clutch. My question is can you just replace the clutch out? Is there a write-up on it?

Thanks in advance.

Yes the clutch can be changed. You have to be careful not to mess up the compressor seals. There are special pullers and installers for the job. Never tap or pull on the compressor shaft. I think you mean a Blazer. There were no Trailblazers in 89. The question is are you talking about an S10 Blazer or a K5 Blazer.
