2006 Rack and Pinion issue
Reference picture of the part that broke
I'm very new to cars and I come for your advice. One of these lines on the rack and pinion of my truck cracked leaking all the power steering fluid out.
My mechanic told me we had to replace the whole part but I was wondering if there is any other fix (may be a cheaper one) to this problem.
The head of the line remains inside
Thank you
An experienced tech should be able to repair a broken line. An addl concern is, did the power steering pump run dry? The line may be able to be repaired , but now we don't about the power steering pump condition.
had this happen on my 2008 last summer. Lines would not seal and replacement ones were no longer available as they modified the design. Ended up replacing rack & pinion, and lines for $1,700.. 4 months later, rack & pinion started making noise, Luckily I had a 24 month 24,000 mile warranty parts and labor and it was replaced for free. NAPA still does a good job!!
