front axel boot torn
I have been advised to replace the entire front axel unit because the grease that has leaked out of the boot has compromised the axel and joints. I thought i could just replace the boot but my service tech said he recommends replacing the whole unit. Both of the front axels and boots...$500 job. he said to replace just the boots will be just as much.
I am pulling a 2 horse trailer from south fla to ny in a weeks time. I am worried about the safety of my vehicle. Is it necessary to always replace the whole unit or can I be assured that replacing just the boot is sufficient?

On a long trip, I would replace the whole CV. You don't want to be in a ditch somewhere on the side of I-95
Speaking of which....
You'll be passing by my neck of the woods if you go I-95. I live about 12 miles from Exit 94 in NC.
