Front diff snapped?!
Hi everyone, I just recently moved back to Texas from California, and I bought a cash car to help save up for new furniture for my family’s apartment. If you’ve ever been in Tx then you’d know of the meteroplex. I’m origninally from the country side of Tx and not familiar with the metroplex. But I purchased a 03 trailblazer. It was raining that week and on my way home from work, I noticed that every time I would start driving from a stop sign or stoplight that I’d skid. So I decided to switch from 2 wheel drive to 4wd. and immediately I heard a clunking sound. I pulled over and switched back and the clunking went away. But as I was on the freeway home clunking came back and it continued to clunk. I a couple exits away from home so I thought I could make it, but no, the clunking sheered off my power steering lines that go to my rack and pinion. I paid for towing about 300$ and to 3 different shops. Two of the shops gave me a quote on the phone saying it would be about 1200$, but when the car gets there they’d add about 600-800$. Is there a way I can do this alone? Or does the prices seem about right? PLEASE HELP!!! I’m spending about 200$ a week on uber to and back from work, and yet my apartment is still empty
. Thanks for your time.

replacing the front diff requires:
-raising the front of the vehicle on jackstands
-draining the diff
-disconnecting the front diff actuator harness
-removing the front driveshaft from the front diff
-the stub shafts from the axle shafts and the diff
-vent tube
-diff
I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner. Its hard to do this on you back in a driveway. Easy on a hoist.
-You won't save anything on parts doing this yourself...just labour $
