Default New to Forum - TB won't drive

Hello, I'm new here and need your advice/help.

Last night I was driving down the highway in my Trailblazer with the cruise control on. Suddenly, without warning, the RPM spiked to 7K. I quickly tapped the brake to disengage the CC, but when I hit the gas, the truck would not go. The engine revved, but it wouldn't drive. When the truck finally came to a stop (I just had to coast to the side of the road), there was a loud clanking sound coming from... somewhere. I couldn't hear exactly where since I was cussing so loud.

After I pulled over, I tried all the gears, including all the 4WD settings. Nothing. Engine revved, but no drive. I checked the transmission fluid and it had fluid and it did not smell burnt. Didn't see anything hanging underneath either.

Any ideas? My first thought was/is transfer case, but I'm far from an expert, which is why I'm here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
