I don't see much in my searches on replacements, only that the stock speakers are no good.

For my Wife's HHR many recommended Crutchfield for replacements. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I chose a budget price JVC double DIN and that included a deal for half off speakers.

During the speaker install I noticed water in the door frame, and on the speakers, in three out of four doors! I see gaps in the weatherstripping.

I added a flexible plastic membrane behind the speakers to immediately isolate them from the problem while I investigate solutions.

I had used balance/fade to locate issues. All bass from one, nothing but treble from another with the old stock speakers.

I installed the speakers first and the sound was consistent across all but minimally better.

After the radio install it was 182% better!

Crutchfield's door/key/lights on chime box did not work until I finished replacing the driver door panel and switches. Passenger window did not work also, until panel and switches re-installed.

They provided quick connect for stock connectors, but due to water issue the stock connectors had corrosion. I opted to cut the wire back to clean wire.

Crutchfield tech support was awesome, even on a sunday afternoon, giving me the color coding for each of the four speaker locations to make sure + and - were correct!

how did you get the door panel off? never mind, since you mentioned HHR I thought this was the HHR part of the forum. I have both an Envoy and HHR, so thus my confusion. Now I got to find the HHR area.

Now I have done speakers in my TB and my Wife's HHR. Panels on both were removed with brutal but delicate force. Door panel pry tools make it easier and spread out the force somewhat so less chance of leaving marks.

Crutchfield is great , they give you all the instructions for your vehicle on how to pull the doors and all needed connectors to not to have to do any wire splicing of the current speaker wiring . GM does use crap $5 speakers in their vehicles, I have replaced all 4 of the speakers in my Isuzu ascender (Envoy clone) . Think they were Pioneers and about $70 a pair .

My stock connections had corrosion so I chose to cut them back and hardwire. But each of the four locations had different color wires and we all know that + and - are just as important in speakers as it is with electrical power circuits. The help line had me on hold for about 13 seconds and came back with the color schemes for each location to decipher + and -.

And looking back over the thread I see that I already said this... Hehehee
