there should be an audible click that disengages the gear shifter to allow it to shift. do your brake lights light up? not sure how theyre wired up or even if theyre on the same switch but this is the route i would be taking if i was in your shoes. waiting for tech2 or someone else to help out

When the ignition is turned on, a shift interlock solenoid inside of the center console about halfway back on the right side is energized. This locks the shifter in park to prevent putting the vehicle in gear until the brakes are applied. When the brakes are applied, the brake light switch sends a signal to the solenoid and it de-energizes, allowing the shifter to be shifted out of park. The issue could be the solenoid or it could be the brake light switch. I would replace the brake light switch first. It's not hard to do. The worst part is figuring out how the @#$%^&* clip comes off the brake pedal pin! It's a one piece clip that is folded back over on itself and clips on the side of the pin. The top of the clip must be moved away from the pin with a flat bladed screwdriver, and then, while holding the top of the clip away from the pin, push the right angled side of the clip towards the pin and it will pop right off. It took me forever to figure out how to get that thing off of there! I just did this job 2 days ago on the wife's Trailblazer because she was having the same problem. So far, everything's working fine.
