Should be a 4L60e Trans. Does it act like it's in neutral when it should have shifted into 3rd and 4th?
If so, it's a worn 3-4 clutch pack. There's just not enough clutch material left for them to press against the steels.
You'll have to rebuild it or replace it with a used or remanufactured transmission.
I rebuilt mine myself. I've rebuilt a few and this one is very easy to rebuild. There are several step by step 4l60e tear down and rebuild videos on youtube.
To rebuild it yourself, assuming no broken parts, you'll need a master rebuild kit with at least the seal kit, 2-4 band, filter, friction clutches and steels ($180). I recommend new bushings ($30) and the molded piston set ($30). I also highly recommend a reman torque converter ($150 at your local auto parts store). You don't know what's hiding in the old one plus you can't flush all the junk out of them.
You can also do a Google search for "30 Common 4L60E Transmission Problems & Repair" for a lot of good info.
