need part # for thermostat for 2021 Trailblazer LT 1.3L
TraxChevrolet's subcompact crossover SUV. This small SUV has a pioneer spirit, with modern technologies that make discovery easy and cargo space that molds to your lifestyle.
I'm over 36,000 miles, out of regular warranty. Dealer wants $200 diagnostic fee to see if it's covered by powertrain warranty, meaning if it's not covered, I'm out of $200. I've done thermostat replacement before on another car, it's easy, but can't find the thermostat in the parts diagram. I'll call the dealer for the part #
Don't forget you have an emissions equipment warranty as well. Make sure you read the fine print, as it may be covered.
Dealer will do everything he can to weasel out of warranty repair.
The part you reference is this whole assembly.
Is it not possible to change just the thermostat on the 1.3L engine? P0128 seems to be a powertrain code, not emissions. It's a coolant temperature code. Curious as to why a dealer would want to decline warranty repair. Doesn't a dealer get paid by manufacturer for their work? If I knew 100% it'd be covered by powertrain warranty (i'm out of regular warranty based on miles), I'd go to the dealer, but neither Chevy nor dealer can tell me over the phone and dealer wants $200 to diagnose, while this whole part costs $250 and I can install it myself. Odd that you have to replace that whole unit, where a thermostat without housing runs about $13 on most vehicles.

I haven't seen the thermostat individually. I've seen this on other vehicles too.

I understand, but warranty terms and conditions don't necessarily follow OBD specifications. Engine temperature is vital to emissions too. I suggest you read your warranty booklet.

Yes, but less than non-warranty work, so a busy shop loses money by doing warranty jobs. Hence why the usual answer you'll get is "that's normal".
