Paint peeling on 2016 Chevy Trax
I have a 2015 Chevy Trax that has paint peeling just under the back window. There are 4 other identical cars in my area that have the same issue. One Blue Chevy Trax belongs to my coworker who just paid to have her 2015 Blue Chevy Trax repainted. She was told that GM did not use the correct primer and that's why its peeling. GM should be responsible for this issue.
it is sickening,I have seen cars in my area with the same spots peeling=starts on the hood and rear hatch, also along the windshield. After numerous messages to chevy I have an open claim and got a quote of $2500 to repaint these areas.I shouldn't have to dish out that kind of money I don't have on a vehicle I am still paying for because of a manufacturer defect.Chevy should own up to their mistake and rectify this situation.
My granddaughter purchased a 2016 Chevrolet Trax 1/2024. 9/2024 the paint on hood and right quarter panel started peeling. We contacted the car lot where we purchased it, but the manager stated the car was past warranty and there was nothing they could do. They offered to have their body guy look at it, but we would have to pay for the repair of the paint. I wondered if it could have been due to the protective coating they applied to it prior to purchase but there’s no proof that caused it? I had googled it and found that if the coating is not applied properly or too aggressively it could cause the peeling, but we have no proof it did. I took the car to our local body shop we use and they stated Chevrolet and Toyota have had this problem and he has seen the paint peel off in sheets on some cars. States it’s because there’s a defect in the primer they use. It’s not porous enough to hold paint. I’m going to contact Chevrolet and see if I get any response. It’s very frustrating for my granddaughter because it is her first car. The manufacturers should issue recalls for their cars with this problem.
do not expect any help from chevy,I have been fighting this for 3 years, finally got a claim number and a nice estimate of over $2000 to fix their problem they won't acknowledge. They did offer me $260 to help but considering it's out of warranty is their excuse.I cannot believe their are not any lawsuits over this.
