Uninvited Guest - Squirrel 2017 Trax AWD
I just experienced damage to my cargo area interior trim panels, due to a squirrel entering the vent valve behind the rear bumper. He chewed holes in the vents, both left & right sides of the interior trim panels & got into the cargo area....Finding nothing interesting, he exited by returning through the same way.... I'm in the process of ordering new trim panels & rear airbag retainers. The airbag removal is not a fun job, as its very difficult to remove them from the 'one time use' plastic retainers. My plan is to install a home made wire mesh grille over the air vent behind the rear bumper to prevent this from happening again...Besides the expense in this unfortunate situation, which I'm not going through Insurance, to avoid a 'Car Fax' report, I am finding that removal of any plastic component is risking the breaking of a lot of the plastic retainers on all the panels. The cargo area trim panels are already destroyed by the squirrel, and in removing the panel about 1/3 of the retaining tabs broke off...as with the access doors for tail lamp bulb replacement...I won't even attempt removing the rear bumper cover as that too has thin tabs that attach to retaining bars, as with the black plastic trim at the wheel opening I have to get the car on a lift to figure out a way to attach my home made grilles to the air vents behind the bumper. There are a lot of youtubes with the topic of rodent infestation & destruction. I found the video on removing the rear bumper cover on a Cruise, No Thank you.....Just wanted to share my experience....Something to think about......
