Default 06 Uplander cooling problem

Today my 06 Uplanders temp gauge shot up to red and bells went off. Pulled over, no overheating, no leaking water, no steam, nothing ! Hoses were dry, no leaks on ground. Only thing odd was overflow container was full of rusty , nasty looking anti freeze. Waited about 25 minutes and temp gauge was back at halfway again. Everything seemed fine but had it towed to mechanic as I didn't want to drive it. Any suggestions on what it might be ?

The most likely culprit in the thermostat got stuck. The fact that the coolant was rusty means your cooling system needs cleaning, so the thermostat got stuck.

when the system overheats the coolant volume expands and the excess will overflow into the reservoir.
+1 thermostat is a good place to start.

We are having the same problem. We have replaced the water pump, radiator, radiator cap, hoses, thermostat, bleeding tower, cleaned out all the rusty looking water, the double fan, and lines. It still about a mile down the road it’s reading hot! We can not figure out why.
