Here is the drain and fill procedure for your vehicle, there is nothing special about it, but note that it does say to let cool and top off...

Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LZ9)
Draining Procedure
Tools Required
J 26568 Coolant and Battery Tester
Caution: To avoid being burned, do not remove the radiator cap or surge tank cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system will release scalding fluid and steam under pressure if radiator cap or surge tank cap is removed while the engine and radiator are still hot.
Important: Draining the cooling system with the pressure cap installed will syphon the coolant from the overflow tank.
Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
Place a drain pan under the drain ****.
Open the radiator drain ****.
Drain the cooling system.
Remove the coolant pressure cap.
If a complete engine block drain is required, remove the engine drain plugs.
Inspect the coolant.
Follow the appropriate procedure based on the condition of the coolant.
• Normal in appearance--Follow the filling procedure.
• Discolored--Follow the flush procedure. Refer to Flushing .
Filling Procedure
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
Notice: The procedure below must be followed. Improper coolant level could result in a low or high coolant level condition, causing engine damage.
Close the radiator drain ****.
Tighten
Tighten the radiator drain **** to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
If the engine block drain plug was removed, perform the following:
2.1. Apply pipe sealer to the drain plugs.
2.2. Install the drain plugs.
Tighten
Tighten the drain plug to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
Lower the vehicle.
Important: Use a 50/50 mixture of DEX-COOL antifreeze and clean, drinkable water.
Slowly fill the cooling system with a 50/50 coolant mixture. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities .
Install the coolant pressure cap.
Start the engine.
Run the engine at 2,000-2,500 RPM until the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
Allow the engine to idle for 3 minutes.
Shut the engine OFF.
Allow the engine to cool.
Top off the coolant as necessary.
Inspect the concentration of the engine coolant, using the J 26568 .
Rinse away any excess coolant from the engine and the engine compartment.

Thank you Erica...as of right it seems the issue is resolved.The garage i had my vehicle serviced seemed to finally correct the problem after its third time being returned i now actually have heat at idle which it has never really had and under driving conditions the heat it blows into the vehicle is the hottest it has ever been. Now fingers crossed there isnt a larger issue at hand as i was told there could b an intake or head gasket leak but i dont know for sure when there was not a pressure test done on my vehicle....are intake or head gasket issues a potential problem with Uplanders?
I had the crossover gasket replaced in my '07 under warranty. There is a service bulletin on it. Check under the vehicle for leaks each time you walk up to it to get in. Check the level in the reservoir.

If you guys are having problems with your rear heat we need to all call this number and put it under your GMC VIN # and complain. I called today and they said there were no other complaints regarding rear heat in the uplanders. Mines an 08 and had to be flushed twice in the past year. Dealer keeps saying air in the lines. Clearly it's not if so many people are having problems.

if you ask me its not a minor problem. I've had it purged twice in pretty much 1 year. It will work fine and then a while later no heat.

the garage which installed my new rad said it could be the manifold or head gasket cause there was air in the coolant system...in my opinion they did not bleed the system properly the first or second time i brought it in.....the third return resulted in the tech bleeding the system and installing a new rad cap and it has been great ever since both at idle and under load....I just think they may not know what there doing or talking about
