Is an Engine Oil cooler needed?
some uplanders come with a stock engine oil cooler...
i was wondering if anyone has replaced one?
it is a sandwich type that goes between the motor and oil filter

chilton manual claims its simple on a 3.9L uplander with maybe the exception of getting the coolant hose clamps off... but ive seen these be a bear on other chevys
ive vaguely heard of an uplander have a faulty cooler causing oil in coolant. he didnt say if he had coolant in oil too.
my symptom is oil in coolant WITHOUT coolant in oil
i believe the cooler primarily appears on 3.9L motors in the following: BUICK LUCERNE 2009-2011 BUICK TERRAZA 2006-2007 CHEVROLET UPLANDER 2006-2009 PONTIAC G6 2006-2007 PONTIAC MONTANA 2006-2009 SATURN RELAY 2006-2007
but i have seen similar ones pulled from 3.4l azteks and i believe a 3.8L venture too
due to the $200 price tag i am looking at junkyards. not sure how to test it or diagnose it on the vehicle (or off, for that matter). the new gasket was $15.
it may be possible to bypass the cooler by connecting the inlet and outlet hoses with a double barb coupler... i guess it would leak oil out the cooler's barbs if defective... the cooler hoses are molded and there may not be room to do a simple bypass job...

you can bypass it. just get some hose and clamps the cooling system get to approx. 17psi and the engine oil maybe 60ish on a cold start
if you want to save the stock set up...this part could be had cheap at pick and pull. if it uses any seals, buy those new
