Unhappy Engine Shroud

My 2006 Uplander doesn't have an engine shroud, even though there are clips where one would supposedly be attached. Is there a reason why engines have them? How vital is it to the life of my engine and van?

Thanks, Inari

they all should come from the factory with the but some people just take them off and leave them off or they just forget to put them back on. most times they have two uses, one being slight noise reduction and the other is just to cover all the hoses and wires for aesthetic reasons

You should be able to pick one up cheap at the local auto wrecker.

They also help with cooling the engine by directing the incoming air at the engine rather than the air going all over.

Funny thing happened while checking out another problem. I looked at the diagram in the user manual of what's under the hood of my van and discovered it doesn't come with an engine shroud.

Unfortunately you can't get anything for $5 today. Even at the UPick they are $11 plus the cost of getting in.

Mine's definitely a 3.5. Now I have the mystery of figuring out what those clips at the back of the engine are for.

I can see that some of us are stuck at home, thanks to Covid19, so we are amusing ourselves on the automotive forums.
