My 2005 will start then die immediately after starting. If I press the gas a little while starting, then it stays started. I have over 72K miles on it now. Does the fuel filter need to be replaced or what is the problem with the van?

 

Does it throw any codes? You may need to change the fuel filter, a tune up ain't a bad idea.

 

It's winter time, do you live in a cold climate? Perhaps you have some icing problems in the fuel system?

 

I am thinking that it could be my throttle body because the swing valve inside is not properly sealed like it should be with the van in the off position, any thoughts on that. I live in Sicily where there is a volcano and there is a lot of ash that floats around. I am going to take it off and clean it up and the reinstall and adjust the gate in it. Any thoughts on how to adjust the gate on those throttle bodies?

 

usually you can't. Fuel filter would be first thing I check.

I took in what you guy where saying, but the easiest thing to do was to pull off the old throttle body and just clean it with regular rubbing alcohol and the story behind this is that it worked. There was a lot of build-up of gunk and stuff on the throttle body side walls that it was not allowing the correct airflow through the opening. Once the throttle body got cleaned and put back on I reset the computer by taking off the negative battery terminal. The van started right up. I was so excited because there was no money spent and the time to this only took me about and hour and that was taking it off, cleaning and reinstalling.
