Default Uplander MPG

I have been very pleased with MPG for our 2007 Uplander 3.9 engine
Recently on a trip to see the Granddaughters we filled up along the way and roads were icy
so I was going 40-50 MPH for about 50 miles to our destination.
at the end of 50 miles my Average Fuel Economy meter was at 34.2
along the way the ave was as high as 34.6
I dont recommend driving 40-50 MPH on good roads but it was neat to see the gas mileage at that speed.
Normal for me is low-mid 20s
thats all for toady

I normally drive around 120km\hr(70mph?), and put about 5000km(3000miles) per month on my 09. I started recording my mileage when I filled up, andam getting around 12L per 100km which works out to about 32mpg

One thing I found that KILLS MPG is when the stupid dealership puts in 5+ quarts of oil instead of the 4 this engine should have. Not only did it drop city mileage down to ~11 MPG, there was significant foaming. Good thing I caught it after ~50 miles had to drain out 1.5 quarts. Make sure that whoever changes your oil knows this engine only gets 4 quarts WITH a filter.

I brought my new-to-me ex-rental 08 home the other day, parked it, and drained the extra oil first thing by changing the oil filter.

It was tough to get the cheap Firestone filter off even with an assortment of filter wrenches and I have not been able to budge the drain bolt. I think it was a lowland gorilla at Firestone who installed these. I will do all future changes once I get the dang bolt out (may take an air tool to do without damage).

In the past I have seen damage on Japanese engines resulting from a high oil level -- typically a front seal will blow out, but I guess this doesn't happen in the very different 3.9 V6 architecture.

Incidentally, if you haven't read about oil filters at
http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oil...reference.html
you should. Very good info there.

I noticed that Amazon has a very good offer on the Purolator Pure One PL25288 pack of two (Amazon itself -- not a third party). No way will I allow one of the cheaper Frams, a Firestone, or other assorted junk filters on my rig.

Regarding MPG, I was amazed to see the Uplander get only 10-12 MPG while it is warming up. Yes, all engines have to run rich until warm, but have never had a chance to see an actual call out of the mpg. It seems to take a couple or three miles to get to where it is exceeding 20 mpg at moderate speed.

I was a bit afraid when I bought my new uplander 09 because I had previously an impala 03 with a 3.4 liters. While the gas milage on my impala was excellent for a car of this size my uplander is not too far behind. Now I am more carefull on the gas pedal and my highway speed is lower. I dont do rabbit start on the traffic lights . In a no wind situation and level road I can achieve 7.4 liter per hundred. In city driving I have never went higher than 9.5 liter. I took out the rear seat completely because I am only me and my wife. Like that I get much more room for luggages and I remove 120 pounds that I dont have to carry. In all it all depend the way you drive it.

32 MPG=7.35 L/100KM
(see convertor at http://www.tdiclub.com/misc/conversions.html I hope it's acqurate)

I get about 15.5 L/100 KM in average per week in Toronto, no matter what I do and how I drive. Usually in very slow traffic .... (dvp, don mills, bayview, downtown, eglinton, etc).
On the long trips (like driving south to NJ) I get about 10.5 L/100KM (over a 2000 km drive).
