2002 passenger power window
Goooooooooooooood morning everybody!!!!!!
I have an 02 Venture van WB edition long wheelbase and 3400 v6, less than 94k miles. Recently the passenger power window quit in the down position. Using my hand dandy service manual I come to the conclusion that the motor needs replaced. This is if I follow the manual step by step. Being that I hate replacing good parts, I verified that the power window motor was indeed bad. I did so by running a pair of jumper cables from the battery to the motor. With smaller wire between motor and cable(so small they should fry if the motor was indeed bad, or high resistance) and lo and behold..... the window went up. Then it went down when I swapped the wires polarity, then up again, then down, you get it, the point is I don't think I got a bad motor. Or is there some other doodad in there that get replaced when the motor does, even though I can plainly see the motor works. I generally work on my Merkur, so this new fangled chevy is foreign to me.
How likely is it that the service manual got it wrong? If so, which is the next most likely component to have failed? Drivers switch? Passenger switch? Wiring in between? Currently the window is up, and it will not go down with the any power window switch. I have not tried forcing 12volts thru the wiring from the drivers window switch, or the passenger switch, only directly to the motor itself.

Did you get to the root of the problem? Since you have easy access to the driver's power window switch, I'd take a volt meter to the connections and check if they're passing power when the switch is activated, or use the ohm meter to see if the switch closes to allow power to pass through. Cheap thing to try: spray the switch internals with contact cleaner to see if it starts working. You can also open it up to look for a broken wire.
I would guess that since neither door switch seems to be working for you, the passenger switch probably isn't the problem.
