2002 venture losing oil but no leak
Hi. I have a 2002 venture. Warner brothers edition. I got an oil change a few weeks ago and all of a sudden about a week ago my low engine oil light came on. We checked and we had almost no oil. We put some more in and went about our way. Then on Saturday I pulled into a parking lot and my low oil pressure light came on. There was no oil in at all. I had to put In 3 qt of oil. The oil lights all went off but now my service engine light is on. I smell something but I am not sure it is oil. It's a burning smell though. There is no oil leak under my car. Can anyone shed some ligh on what could be happening? The car does have almost 170,000 miles on it. Thank you!!
I had a similar thing happen to me a couple of years ago. I usually change my own oil but this time I didn't. Its seems the shop over tightened the oil filter and cracked it in several spots. As I was driving the oil pressure made these cracks bigger causing me to lose more oil. I did have a lot of oil sprayed under the truck. Check your filter for cracks and another thing to look at is to see if the o-ring on the filter is either missing or if there are 2 of them there. Since the problem started soon after the oil change, this is a good starting place to look at.
