My 2004 Venture is making horrible sounds when the A/C fan is on. It first started with the lower speed switch setting (1, 2 and 3) but now is squeaking and vibrating the whole van. Unfortunately I gave my factory shop manual away with our 1999 Venture when I sold it so I need to know how to replace the blower motor in my 2004.

Does anyone have any insight or instruction on how to best replace my front blower motor in my 2004 Venture?

Are you sure it is the blower motor? I hear the most common problem is the resistors going out.

Check the resistor first:

Pull the connector from the blower motor resistor - as you're looking at the plug with the slots.

The connector looks something like this as you look at it:

The letters are to help you with the next part.

E is the ground. Touch one probe to it from your test light or multimeter for each test and follow the order. Each terminal corresponds to a blower setting. You should get about 12 volts for each test with the ignition on,but the engine not running. The blower resistor steps down the voltage to get the blower to spin at the appropriate speed.

A+ E = SPEED SETTING #2
B+E= SPEED #1
C+E= SPEED #4
D+E= SPEED # 3
F+E = SPEED # 5 (HIGH)
G IS HOT AT ALLTIMES YOU SHOULD ALWAYS GET 12 v HERE

If you don't get 12v at each setting, when you change the switch to the corresponding setting and test then the switch is most likely the problem, assuming that the connector at the back of the switch is attached securely and that the wires are in good condition, if all settings get 12 volts when you switch to them, then the blower resistor is most likely your problem.

This gives you enough info to test it, see below to replace it.

There are two Blower Motor Resistors, the main resistor is located under the dash on the right side. The Auxiliary Blower Motor Resistor is behind the left side rear quarter trim panel.

If the blower motor is making a vibrating and making a lot of noise, then the fan was probably out of balance at one time and has probably ruined the motor by now. No need to check the resister since the fan works but is just making noise. start by taking off the passenger side hush panel under the dash. Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the 3 7mm screws and the motor should fall out. the pics above show the motor under the hood, don't look there cause you won't find it...the motors do look similar though.

 

Shawn and Rabbit, I will check both. I am pretty sure that it is the motor alone. However if I am in there replacing the motor I will probably replace the resistor as well.

I took my Tahoe to the shop over the weekend and they replaced my Blower Motor Resistor and it worked ok for two days and today it only works when it wants to and when it does work the Blower Motor is making noise. My husband is trying to change the Blower now. How do you take the old one out?
