Default Starter engaging after start

A friends Venture is engaging the starter after it's already started. It's the classic gringing as if you forgot you started the car. This one is a 01' model and I know that the computer controls actually engaging the starter and also prevents it from engaging once the engine is running. You can just bump the start position and the starter will stay engaged until the engine starts. Anyway that's the type of system it is. What would cause the starter to engage after the engine has already started.

Thanks

Jeff

If you happen to figure this out, I would appreciate it if you could let me know. I logged on to post this exact same problem with my 01 Venture. The dealership is planning on replacing the starter for me (since I just purchased it), so hopefully that will take care of the problem.

It has not happened since I first posted so there is no way of knowing what caused it. My thoughts are either the starter is going bad, or it was reengaged after the start some how. Only time will tell.
