Useless Volt Battery Warranty
Since Chevrolet has totally took a dump om my volt I wanted to share my experience. My 2018 Volt gave me an engine warning light and reduced propulsion. I took it to the dealer on October 18th and haven't seen my car since. The battery is still under the original GM factory warranty. I was told the battery was bad and obviously expected them to put in a new battery and get my car back to me. But NO. GM wants the dealer to open up the battery and replace any bad cells in the battery. The problem is they have no cells to do that. My car has been at the dealer going on 5 months now because GM can't get any cells to relace a bad one. So common sense says that they would just go ahead and replace the battery and get the car that is still under warranty back to the customer. I filed a complaint with GM and all they did was assign me a company rep to call me or email me periodically and tell me they are still waiting on parts. What a bunch of BS. This is the 3rd Volt I've purchased but the way they've crapped the bed will have me looking at other car manufacturers for my next purchase.
I'm really sorry to hear your story but very appreciative that you shared it. Our volt was held hostage at the shop for more than a couple of weeks. I thought that was bad but that's nothing like 5 months. I really hope you get substantial compensation for the period without the vehicle.
Your post inspires me to share as well. The tow warranty is also useless. We had our car towed to the nearest authorized repair center for a propulsion system repair. Here's what GM's website says about their towing warranty on their website:
I really wanted to love volt and buy American. At this point, though, anyone considering buying a used volt or any car from GM should really just not. GM's reliability is horrible and their warranty actions are criminal.

- "Chevrolet Volt, Spark EV, and Malibu Hybrid - For vehicles sold in the United States, in addition to the Bumper-to-Bumper Coverage described previously, Chevrolet will warrant certain components for each Chevrolet Volt, and Spark EV, and Malibu Hybrid for 8 years or 100,000 miles (160 000 kilometers), whichever comes first, from the original in-service date of the vehicle, against warrantable repairs to the specific electric propulsion components of the vehicle."
- "Towing - During the 8 year or 8 years or 100,000 miles (160 000 kilometers) Hybrid warranty period, towing is covered to the nearest Chevrolet servicing dealer if your vehicle cannot be driven because of a warranted Hybrid specific defect. Contact the GM Roadside Assistance Center for towing."
